Photographing the Flying Arts Alliance Queensland Regional Arts Awards in Cairns

As a Cairns event photographer, I was pleased to photograph the Flying Arts Alliance Queensland Regional Arts Awards 2025 exhibition, Momentum, presented at the historic Court House Building at the Cairns Art Gallery.

The exhibition ran from 7 February to 2 May 2026, bringing together the work of established and emerging artists from across regional Queensland.

For me, photographing an exhibition is about more than simply recording the artworks. Good event photography in Cairns should capture the atmosphere of the occasion, the exhibition space, the artworks themselves and the people who come together around them.

Momentum: Regional Queensland Art in Cairns

The theme of Momentum explored ideas of balance, reflection and innovation in a rapidly changing society.

The exhibition brought together an impressive range of contemporary works, including painting, sculpture, ceramics and video installations, showcasing the diversity and creativity of artists working throughout regional Queensland.

The Court House Building provided a distinctive setting for the exhibition, with the artworks interacting with the architecture and character of the historic Cairns location.

Cairns Event Photography for Arts, Culture and Creative Events

Photographing exhibitions and cultural events requires a slightly different approach from conventional corporate event photography.

The photographs need to communicate the environment and atmosphere while accurately representing the artists and their work. Lighting, composition and careful positioning are particularly important when photographing artworks, installations and gallery spaces.

My experience photographing events, theatre productions, live music, festivals, film sets, corporate events and awards nights allows me to work comfortably in a wide range of environments.

Whether I’m photographing a gallery exhibition, a major cultural event or a corporate function, I aim to create photographs that tell the story of the event while providing useful images for promotion, media, websites and social media.

Regional arts events provide an opportunity to document the creative work being produced throughout Queensland and to create a visual record that can be used long after the exhibition has finished.
